Cuifengshan Gr
Type Locality and Naming
The type section is located at Cuifengshan Mt. in Qujing County, Yunnan Province. Each formation has its own stratotype section located at Xishan Hill of Qujing County (103o 42’ E - 25o 30’ N), Yunnan Province. It was named by Ting V.K. (=Ding Wenjiang) in 1914 as Tsuifengshan Series and quoted by Grabua A.W. in 1924 at his volumes on Stratigraphy of China. In 1966, Zhang Xinping subdivided it into four formations from bottom to top: Xishancun Fm, Xitun Fm, Guijiatun Fm and Xujiachong Fm.
Synonym: Tsuifengshan Series

Lithology and Thickness
The Group is a set of terrestrial deposits being characterized by different colored siltstone, shale, mudstone and sandstone, with rare conglomerate and argillaceous limestone. It is subdivided into four Formations from bottom to top: Xishancun Fm, Xitun Fm, Guijiatun Fm and Xujiachong Fm (see links for details on each.) in the classic area of Qujing. The outcrop exposed in type locality of Qujing may reach approximately 2000 m in thickness. However, in out of Qujing area, the Group is generally disconformably or unconformably contact with underlying Pre-Devonian with much less thickness.
Relationships and Distribution
Lower contact
This formation conformably overlies the Miandian Fm of Silurian.
Upper contact
It is in a conformable or unconformable contact with the overlying Chuandong Fm, or the Pojiao Fm.
Regional extent
It is distributed widely in the east of Yunnan, and well developed in Xishan-Cuifengshan area of Qujing County.
GeoJSON
Fossils
It contains diverse plant, spore, acritarch, fish, bivalve, ostracoda and other fossils. See component formations for details.
Age
Depositional setting
It is suggested as littoral facies.
Additional Information
The “Cuifengshan Group” is disconformably in contact with the underlying strata in the outside of the type locality and with uncompleted record of its lower parts. In these areas the traditional name of Cuifengshan Group is either kept for using or renamed as new.
